This past weekend we added another upgrade to the chicken coop. Previously we used a cinder block and a piece of wood to close off the chicken door at night. Now we’ve moved up a notch The new ramp is mounted on a hinge and folds up to a latch on the top at night. We added raised steps to the ramp to prevent anyone from slipping, especially in the winter months. I think everyone appreciates the improvement!
(The rocks were added to prevent the chickens from digging up the ground around their coop, for fear that they would it easier for a predator to entire their area.)
The white layers:
(With any luck, these ladies will begin to lay in the next few weeks. Based on breed characteristics, they should begin to lay before my brown layers who are dual purpose birds.)
Although this picture is fuzzy, I think it captures the rooster’s personality perfectly!
