Jon eats a ridiculous amount of sunflower seeds. He tends to eat them when he is driving because they keep his mouth busy and it keeps him awake. We decided to take a stab at growing and roasting them ourselves. We harvested the sunflowers as soon as we noticed the birds eating them.
The flowers had died back and the seeds were developed:
We grew 12 foot mammoth sunflowers so I left this job up to Jon. He has a foot on me being over 6 foot tall and all 
He bent the stalks down and cut the stalk, leaving about 18 inches to make for easier handling:

Roasting the seeds turned into quite the process. I’ll recap that later this week!
